JON MICHAEL ROUTE
METALWORK
Owner Jon (Jack) Route's metal work is well known locally and nationally. Over 35 years of doing art fairs, exhibiting in museums and galleries, designing and teaching has set his work apart. His metalwork ranges from functional and useful items fabricated from pewter to colorful wall pieces of copper and brass.
"I have been in love with metal, metal tools, the processes of metalsmithing, and nearly anything and everything to do with this corner of the periodic table for over 35 years. With an M.F.A. in metalsmithing, work experience as a bench jeweler and metal tradesman, two stints as an adjunct professor, and nearly 30 years as an independent metal studio artist, you could say I'm passionate about metal.
"Jack's current work on the wall is an exploration of color on metal using the technique of hot process chemical patination. Much of his work has been commissioned by healthcare facilities for public lobbies and gathering areas.
"A recent direction for me has been larger scale found-art metal sculpture. I had been collecting old wheels, gears, pulleys and cranks in a pile in the corner. As with many artists, the genesis for creating often comes from giving yourself time to "play" with something new.
"Residential, commercial and public commissions welcomed. contact one10gallery@gmail.com
